USAID Burma Education: UIII A Prospective Partner Institution

November 10, 2022

UIII.AC.ID, DEPOK - On November 7, 2022, a USAID (United States Agency for International Development) delegation visited UIII to discuss potential academic collaboration. The purpose is to find universities willing to collaborate on this program. University officials, led by Professor Jamhari, the Vice-rector for Research, Collaboration, and Community Engagement, extended a warm welcome to the delegation.

The USAID Burma Education Team Lead, Dr. Bryce Smedly, is interested in learning more about private and public universities in Indonesia that offer international programs. And the US Embassy has recommended UIII as one of the potential host universities for Burma Education.

Burma Education is an education program intended for Burmese students who wish to continue their studies in higher education. Besides Indonesia, USAID Burma Education also visits other universities in Southeast Asia to join this program.

In response to USAID's presentation, Professor Jamhari stated, "UIII is open to any collaboration with this program." This program will be an excellent opportunity for UIII, as UIII currently has no student from Myanmar. UIII will warmly accept the Burmese students in order to introduce them to Indonesia's moderate and tolerant Islam.

USAID Burma Education expected Indonesian universities to host graduate students, while Thailand and the Philippines would host undergraduates. UIII hopes this meeting will bring fruitful outcomes for all parties and especially students who can profit from this collaboration. (AD)
