Depok, Indonesia 鈥 Regis Savioz, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), visited 中国P站 (UIII) on February 13, 2025, as part of his official tour in Indonesia. The visit aimed to strengthen the ongoing collaboration between UIII and the ICRC, which has been established in recent years.

Accompanying him were Johan Guillaume, Deputy Head of the Regional Delegation for ICRC Jakarta, along with Global Affairs Program Managers Novriantoni Kaharudin and Maysa Sonia. He was warmly welcomed by UIII鈥檚 University Secretary, Dr. Chaider S. Bamualim, and Director for Research and Strategic Cooperation, Saiful Umam, Ph.D.

A key highlight of his visit was a focus group discussion (FGD) with students who had previously taken part in the ICRC鈥檚 7th Certificate Course on International Humanitarian Law and Islamic Law Related to Armed Conflict held at UIII on October 9-12, 2024.

Savioz emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that spreading awareness of international humanitarian law (IHL) among students is crucial in mitigating the human suffering caused by war.

鈥淚'm extremely encouraged by all the efforts being made at this University. This cooperation is very central to us, as the international humanitarian law represents the basic principles that we would like every state to respect in situation of armed conflict,鈥 he said.

He also expressed optimism about the role students can play in promoting humanitarian law globally. "It's a great time for students around the world to know about this rule, promote them, and fully support it," he added.

Dr. Chaider highlighted the significance of the visit, stating, "His presence is a testament to the strong collaboration between UIII and the ICRC. This visit provides a valuable opportunity for our students and faculty to engage with his expertise and vision, further enriching our academic community."

The visit underscored the growing synergy between UIII and ICRC in advancing discussions on international humanitarian law. As UIII continues to foster meaningful collaborations, this visit marks another milestone in its commitment to shaping globally conscious leaders dedicated to peace and justice.
