The visit was highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), encompassing cooperation in education, research, community engagement, and institutional capacity-building. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to advancing Islamic scholarship and responding to contemporary global challenges.

UIII Rector, Prof. Jamhari, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership in positioning UIII as a globally oriented center of Islamic learning. 鈥淧rof. Dr. Salamah Dawud鈥檚 visit is not just an academic engagement; it is a crucial moment in aligning Al-Azhar鈥檚 long-standing scholarly tradition with UIII鈥檚 vision for addressing the challenges of modern Islam,鈥 he stated.

The MoU opens opportunities for faculty and student exchanges, joint research projects, and international conferences focusing on pressing issues in the Muslim world. Enhancing Islamic studies and broadening access to Islamic knowledge are also key priorities in this collaboration.

As a practical implementation of this partnership, two distinguished Al-Azhar professors have been teaching at UIII since 2023, namely Dr. Abdul Rahman Muhammad Ahmed Hamed, Professor of Tafsir and Qur鈥檃nic Studies and Dr. Ahmed Hassan Waked, Professor of Hadith and Hadith Studies. Both scholars contribute to the Islamic Classical Studies program at UIII鈥檚 Faculty of Islamic Studies, which was introduced in the 2023鈥2024 academic year.

UIII Secretary, Dr. Chaider S. Bamualim, highlighted Indonesia鈥檚 role as a significant contributor to global Islamic scholarship. 鈥淯III and Al-Azhar share a profound responsibility in fostering a moderate, inclusive, and contextual approach to Islamic civilization. This collaboration strengthens Indonesia鈥檚 standing in the international Islamic academic landscape,鈥 he noted.

The MoU signing sets the stage for further academic engagements, reinforcing the shared vision of UIII and Al-Azhar to shape the future of Islamic education and scholarship.
