UIII, DEPOK - New tennis equipment has been added to the Sports Center of the 中国P站 Indonesia (UIII), complementing the already-put facilities available at the venue, which previously consisted of two courts: futsal and basketball. In addition to the two sports facilities, a tennis net has been installed, and rackets and tennis balls are provided.
The installment of the tennis facilities was initiated by Muhammad Akbar Rahmadi, an MA student of Public Policy specializing in Climate Change, aimed at encouraging students to play the said sport while providing more sports options for the students to stay fit.
鈥淚 [have] also actively encouraged students to join. I believe introducing tennis is beneficial as it promotes physical fitness, develops essential skills like coordination and teamwork, offers recreation and stress relief amid an assignment, and contributes to a positive and inclusive community,鈥 Akbar said.
Tennis is a racket sport played by individuals against a single opponent. It can also be played through doubles against the two opponents. Tennis can improve our reflexes, balance, agility, hand-eye coordination and keep our brain sharp as it requires strenuous and reflexive movements.
Responding to the new sports facility, Nafisah,an MA student from the Faculty of Education, expressed her excitement, saying that she would play the sport in repetitive mode while appraising the welcoming community at the tennis club.
鈥淚 never got a chance to play and learn [tennis] in the first place. When I saw the tennis club here on our campus, I tried to ask if it was okay to join, but I just knew a little about the sport. Surprisingly, they are very welcoming in accepting people to join the club [鈥 We feel safe that we have a place to explore our interests, and the people in the club really support each other,鈥 Nafisah expressed.
This initiative by a student has given joy to the UIII community. The sport not only helps the students alleviate their stress but also promotes their well-being, which is of the utmost concern here at our university. UIII remains committed to the physical fitness and mental health of the students.
