ÖйúPÕ¾ (UIII) recently participated in the 4th National Gathering of the Quality Assurance Network (JPM) for State Universities with Legal Entities (PTN-BH), held on November 5-7, 2024, in Bali, Indonesia. Represented by the Head of the Center of Quality Assurance, Suparto, Ph.D, and quality assurance officer Regiani Yunistika, M.Ed, UIII joined 22 other prestigious Indonesian universities in a collaborative effort to advance quality assurance in higher education.
This year’s meeting focused on strengthening the partnership between national accreditation bodies, such as BAN-PT and the Professional Accreditation Agency (LAM), and PDDikti, Indonesia’s higher education database, in the wake of the newly implemented Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 53 of 2023. The regulation aims to streamline accreditation processes while enhancing educational standards nationwide, a crucial move towards achieving high-quality higher education in Indonesia.
The event commenced with a review of the outcomes from the previous JPM PTN-BH meeting held in April 2024. Dr. I Wayan Nurjaya of IPB University, the host of the earlier gathering, emphasized the necessity of sustained collaboration between universities to safeguard and elevate the quality of education in Indonesia. The formal opening followed, led by the Rector of Universitas Terbuka, Prof. Ojat Darojat, with an address by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, delivered via video conference.
In the first panel session, the Chairman of the BAN-PT Accreditation Council, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Imam Buchori and David Aulia Akbar Adhieputra, M.T.I., Head of Data Processing at PDDikti, discussed the implications of Regulation No. 53 of 2023. The panel highlighted how the new regulation strategically simplifies the accreditation process while driving quality improvement across Indonesia’s higher education sector. The synergy between accreditation agencies and PDDikti is anticipated to bolster transparency and efficiency, ensuring a continuous improvement in educational standards.
The second session explored the roles and responsibilities of Professional Accreditation Agency (LAM) under the updated regulation, with presentations from key LAM figures, including Prof. Muchlas Samani (LAMDIK), Prof. Dian Agustia (LAMEMBA), Dr. Melania Suweni Muntini (LAMSAMA), Prof. Zainal A. Hasibuan (LAMINFOKOM), and Dr. Deasy Silvya Sari (LAMSPAK). The panel’s consensus underscored LAM’s critical role as an independent agency in ensuring that Indonesian higher education meets nationally established quality standards.
The gathering concluded with remarks from Universitas Terbuka’s Director, Agus Tatang Sopandi, who emphasized the importance of inter-university synergy to strengthen Indonesia’s quality assurance system in an evolving regulatory landscape.
UIII’s participation in the meeting is expected to reinforce its partnerships with other JPM PTN-BH institutions, paving the way for collaborative efforts to uphold and enhance educational excellence across Indonesia. This collective commitment is key to building a resilient quality assurance framework capable of meeting future challenges.
