Vice Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Prof. Dr. Muhammad adh-Dhuwaini's Upcoming Public Lecture at UIII

On June 22nd, 2024, ÖйúPÕ¾ (UIII) will host a distinguished guest, Professor Dr. Muhammad adh-Dhuwaini, the Vice Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar. He will deliver a public lecture at the UIII Campus in Depok, West Java.

The lecture will focus on the role of Al-Azhar University in preserving the heritage of Arabic and Islamic literary traditions. This event offers a significant opportunity for scholars, students, and the broader academic community to engage with one of the leading figures in comparative jurisprudence.

A Scholar of Distinction

Sheikh Muhammad adh-Dhuwaini's impressive academic journey began in Egypt, where he was born on March 29, 1965. He pursued his undergraduate studies in Sharia and Law at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt, and graduated in 1990 with the esteemed honor of "jayyid jiddan ma'a dignity al-syaraf." This early accolade marked the beginning of a remarkable career dedicated to the advancement of Islamic jurisprudence.

Academic Contributions

Five years after obtaining his bachelor's degree, Sheikh adh-Dhuwaini earned his master's degree in the same field from Al-Azhar University. His thesis, "Tahqiq and Study of the Book of al-Nikah from the Manuscript 'Tahdzib al-Ahkam' by Imam al-Baghaqi- Syafi'i Fiqh," showcased his deep understanding of classical Islamic texts and jurisprudential principles. In 1998, he achieved his doctorate in Comparative Fiqh with the highest honor, "ma'a dignity al-syaraf al-ula," for his dissertation on "The Law of Division (Inheritance) between Islamic Law and Civil Law: A Comparative Fiqh Study."

Sheikh adh-Dhuwaini's research is notable for its comprehensive examination of eight schools of thought, providing meticulous comparisons and identifying the strongest positions within Islamic and positive law. His scholarly work has been instrumental in bridging the gap between traditional Islamic jurisprudence and contemporary legal systems.
