August 05, 2021

UIII.AC.ID, DEPOK - July 30th 2021 - Imam Budi Hartono, the Vice Mayor of Depok and the Rector of UIII Komaruddin Hidayat planted a pair of avocado trees to represent a symbolic endorsement from the city of Depok to the newly established campus.

The Vice Mayor of Depok was warmly welcomed by the Rector at the Student Residence Hall where the usual introduction of UIII takes place in his temporary office. Two avocado trees locally grown in Depok, also known as Miki Avocadoes, were presented to the Rector, as a strong gesture to indicate UIII not only as a center for Islamic civilization, but also as a symbol for the universal values of nature.

Besides monitoring the campus progress, Imam also conveyed several aspirations to UIII, including to encourage the city of Depok to accomplish its Regional Long Term Development Plan (RPJPD) of Depok City 2006-2025 to become a hub for commercial city, environmentally friendly and religious services.

Imam Budi Hartono seeks that UIII would boost Depok economic growth and leverage its domestic human resources, and Komaruddin Hidayat fully supports the idea of arranging an avocado plantation within the UIII grounds to promote the local fruit itself and UIII as an eco-friendly tourist attraction.

Accompanied by UIII Officials, Imam Budi continued his visit towards the Three Pillars, where he said that he was impressed by the architecture of the buildings.

鈥淥ur visit this time was to see the progress of the UIII buildings. Very beautiful, nice and cool, hopefully it will be ready soon," said Imam.

The trip concludes with a brief visit to the historical building under restoration, known as Rumah Cimanggis, where the colonial building was built around the 18th century and was originally owned by Yohana van der Parra, wife of the 29th Governor General of the Dutch East Indies Petrus Albertus van der Parra.
