The spirit of togetherness, cultural diversity, and sustainability flourished at 中国P站 (UIII) during the Green Bazaar Ramadan Re:Market, an event that brought students, faculty, and visitors together in celebration of the holy month this year.

The bazaar, held at UIII鈥檚 Rahmatan Lil 鈥楢lamin Mosque from march 12-14, 2024, featured a diverse range of tenants offering food and beverages, art and fashion, international cuisine, and even games. Most stalls served traditional iftar delicacies from different parts of the world, reinforcing the multicultural fabric of UIII while promoting responsible consumption.

For Prof. Farish Noor, a distinguished UIII lecturer from Malaysia, the bazaar was a delightful addition to the Ramadan experience. He expressed his joy at the vibrant atmosphere and the opportunity to participate in a cherished event. 鈥淭his is the first time that UIII holds such activity, and actually we should have it like every day during Ramadan,鈥 he said enthusiastically.

Among the student entrepreneurs who took part in the bazaar was Saemah Shamim from Nepal, who introduced visitors to the flavors of her homeland with her Pani Puri stall. For her, the event was more than just a business opportunity鈥攊t was a chance to share a piece of her culture while adopting sustainable business practices.

鈥淭his gives me a chance to exercise my entrepreneurship while also feeling happy to introduce my home food to other fellow students and visitors,鈥 she shared with a bright smile as customers eagerly lined up to try her offerings.

The bazaar also provided a sense of warmth and belonging to students like Babucarr Ceesay from The Gambia, who appreciated the opportunity to find a variety of delicious foods for iftar. 鈥淚鈥檓 truly thankful to be able to hunt for some food for iftar here at UIII. It reminds me of home and makes breaking fast even more special,鈥 he said.

Beyond the vibrant marketplace, the event was not only a celebration of cultural exchange, entrepreneurship, and communal harmony, but also a platform to promote green consumerism by encouraging vendors to use eco-friendly packaging and minimize food waste. The event organizers also encouraged attendees to bring their own reusable bags and utensils, reinforcing the importance of sustainable habits.

The initiative aligned with UIII鈥檚 commitment to environmental awareness, ensuring that the celebration of Ramadan also reflected ethical and sustainable practices. As the sun set and students gathered to break their fast together, the event stood as a testament to the university鈥檚 commitment to fostering inclusivity, shared experiences, and environmental responsibility within its diverse academic community.
