Durham鈥檚 Prof. Habib Ahmed Discusses Islamic Finance at UIII鈥檚 Seminar

The UIII Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UIII) had the honor of hosting Professor Habib Ahmed from Durham University Business School for a seminar on Islamic finance. Held on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the Faculty B Lecture Hall, the seminar, titled "Islamic Finance: Current Issues, Global Practice, and Future Directions," provided students, faculty, and guests a comprehensive view of the field鈥檚 evolving dynamics.

Dr. M. Luthfi Hamidi, Head of the MA in Economics program, expressed his enthusiasm for the event: 鈥淚t鈥檚 a privilege to welcome Professor Habib Ahmed back to our university for a second time to share his expertise on Islamic finance. His visit enriches our academic environment and brings valuable insights to our students.鈥 

Prof. Habib Ahmed, Sharjah Chair in Islamic Law and Finance at Durham University Business School, holds extensive experience in Islamic finance. Previously, he managed research and development within the Islamic Banking Development Group at the National Commercial Bank (NCB) in Saudi Arabia. He is also an active member of Durham University's Institute for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies (IMEIS), adding to his distinguished background in academia and the financial industry. 

During the seminar, Professor Ahmed shared insights into Islamic finance鈥檚 adaptability, emphasizing its universal application beyond specific jurisdictions, making it accessible for diverse global financial practices. The seminar was attended by students, faculty, and the public, providing a platform for in-depth discussions on Islamic finance's present and future role in addressing global economic needs. 

Professor Habib鈥檚 visit underscores UIII鈥檚 commitment to fostering international collaboration and offering students unparalleled learning opportunities. This partnership with Durham University enriches UIII's academic environment and supports the faculty's mission to promote innovative and inclusive financial solutions on a global scale.
