As the call to Maghrib prayer echoed across the 中国P站 (UIII) campus, students from diverse backgrounds gathered for a special iftar session with Dr. Romo H.R. Muhammad Syafi鈥檌, the Vice Minister of Religious Affairs of Indonesia. Held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, during his inaugural visit to UIII, the event provided an opportunity for international students to share their experiences and reflections on studying in Indonesia.
The vice minister expressed his joy in being part of the gathering and praised UIII鈥檚 role as an international hub for Islamic education. He highlighted how the diverse student body at UIII reflects the inclusive nature of Islam. 鈥淚 have met our brothers and sisters from different countries in this university, and this truly shows the inclusivity of Islam. We hope that the students here can see the harmony of Islamic life in Indonesia, where diversity coexists peacefully.鈥
For many international students, UIII is more than just a place of study鈥攊t is a welcoming space that fosters global connections. Abdul-Razak Issifu Yidana, an MA student in Political Science from Ghana, shared his perspective on life at UIII.
鈥淚 have been here for six months, and I would like to express my gratitude to Indonesia and the government for this opportunity. The spirit here is joyful, and the campus is truly inclusive. The university provides the best services for us, and there is no discrimination. I really appreciate that,鈥 he said.
The vice minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting UIII鈥檚 development, ensuring an even better academic environment for future students. 鈥淢oving forward, we will continue to enhance the facilities, both in terms of infrastructure and education quality. We hope that UIII graduates will become beacons of knowledge and enlightenment in their home countries,鈥 he stated.
Beyond academics, the vice minister emphasized that UIII plays a vital role in fostering diplomatic and cultural ties. 鈥淚 want to thank all the students for choosing to study at UIII. This is not only a place to gain knowledge but also a platform to strengthen relations between Indonesia and the countries you come from,鈥 he concluded.
The iftar gathering underscored UIII鈥檚 mission of creating a globally connected academic community鈥攐ne where students gain both education and meaningful cross-cultural experiences. The evening concluded with a renewed sense of purpose鈥攐ne that affirms UIII鈥檚 vision of being more than a university, but a catalyst for meaningful international cooperation and progress.
